AES+F is pleased to participate in the upcoming exhibition WE ARE ALL MERMAIDS. Mermaids, Boundary-Crossing and the Beauty of Fluidity at the Kunsthalle Wilhelmshaven, curated by Liza Dieckwisch and Petra Stegmann.
The exhibition explores the enduring and ever-evolving myth of the mermaid—an emblem of transformation, desire, danger, and fluid identity. Drawing from visual art, music, literature, and everyday culture, WE ARE ALL MERMAIDS reimagines this mythological figure through the lenses of feminism, queerness, and new materialism, while also engaging with the local maritime landscape of Wilhelmshaven.
AES+F will present a selection from the Mare Mediterraneum project, including three porcelain sculptures (#2, #5, and #7) and a single-channel video installation. Set against a surreal, Mediterranean-inspired backdrop, the work merges the imagery of modern-day refugees and tourists into a shared, otherworldly tableau—reimagining them as mythical sea beings adrift in a dreamlike limbo. The project reflects AES+F’s ongoing engagement with contemporary mythologies, migration, and the aesthetics of ambiguity.
