AES+F will participate in MYSTICA VISIO in Todi with Allegoria Sacra, 2011, presented in its single-channel version. Curated by Massimo Mattioli, the exhibition will form part of the celebrations marking the 800th anniversary of the death of Saint Francis of Assisi. Bringing contemporary art into dialogue with ancient, Renaissance, and Baroque works, MYSTICA VISIO will unfold across three historic venues: the Sala delle Pietre dei Palazzi Comunali, the Todi Civic Museum, and the Temple of San Fortunato. AES+F’s work will be shown in the Sala delle Pietre, a monumental medieval hall within the Municipal Palaces, dating back to the 14th century.
Inspired by Giovanni Bellini’s enigmatic Renaissance painting of the same title, Allegoria Sacra reimagines Purgatory as a contemporary international airport — a space of transit, suspension, and transformation. In this setting, the video brings sacred allegory into the present, weaving together mythology, migration, media imagery, and the unstable identities of the contemporary world.
